Regular and reliable backups are a necessity, especially in increasingly complex environments with Exchange, Sharepoint, SQL databases and Hyper-V systems. Despite good backups, the time required for a restore is often forgotten.

Even state-of-the-art tape drives will never match the performance of hard drives. A backup to disk can therefore drastically reduce the error recovery time. Connection of a further tier by means of tape drives is a good idea as it means that there is no need to maintain too many drive pools. The SCDPM offers you this capability (More info here).

Single Instance Storage (SIS) also allows the data quantity to be reduced to an acceptable level in many cases. This SIS is also relevant should you wish to backup your Clients with the SCDPM
