IUCLID 5 Hosting FAQs
We have compiled a list of the key questions for you.
Technical issues
Can I operate several IUCLID instances, e.g. test and productive system, on one Application Server?
Due to the limited resources of a single Application Server, it is not possible to operate several IUCLID instances on one Application Server. If a test and productive system is required, we recommend using a second Application Server, which must be ordered in addition to the first.
Can I copy my data from IUCLID4 if I have my system hosted by TechniData IT-Service GmbH?
In principle, it is possible to copy the data from an IUCLID4 system. However, the copying of IUCLID4 data is not part of the complete package and must therefore be ordered separately.
What access options are there?
TechniData IT-Service GmbH offers clients three different options for establishing a connection to the IUCLID application: unsecure access via http, encrypted access via https, and secure access by means of a Site-to-Site VPN.
Which type of access do you recommend and when?
For clients who only need unencrypted access, standard http access is suitable.
If a higher level of security is required, e.g. in a productive environment, TechniData IT Service GmbH offers connection via https or via Site-to-Site VPN. In contrast to https access, which has max. 128bit encryption strength, a Site-to-Site VPN connection offers extended encryption methods and higher encryption strengths.
In the case of both methods, all data traffic between Clients and Server is encrypted, meaning that increased security can be guaranteed for sensitive data. As this is an additional service, there is an additional monthly charge for clients.
Which encryption algorithms are offered with a Site-to-Site VPN?
If a Site-to-Site VPN is used, various IPSec encryption algorithms from 3DES to AES-256 are available. The encryption algorithm used depends on the client's security requirements.
How fast is the internet connection?
The internet connection is redundant and, assuming normal operation, has a bandwidth of 100 Mbit. Should the primary internet connection fail, the system switches to a backup line automatically. This means that productive operation can be assured, even in the event of a fault.

What network requirements must I meet in order to access the IUCLID system at TechniData IT-Service GmbH?
If you wish to access the system via a simple http connection, your network merely requires an internet connection
If you wish to use a Site-to-Site VPN, an additional VPN gateway needs to be set up. The IUCLID Clients and IUCLID Server then communicate solely via the VPN gateway.
My company uses a proxy server that is not transparent for the Clients. Is that a problem?
If a non-transparent proxy server is used, the Java Client must be called up with adapted options.
My company uses a proxy server that also performs content scanning (Webwasher). Can this lead to problems?
The use of a proxy server which also performs content scanning can lead to problems. The content scanner may need to be adapted under certain circumstances.
My company uses a proxy server that requires authentication. Is that a problem?
Yes, the Java Client does not support proxy authentication and is therefore also unable to establish a connection to the IUCLID system.
Are my data secure? And what security precautions are taken at TechniData IT-Service GmbH?
The data are stored on a separate database server which is backed up daily and protected by an additional firewall.
Each IUCLID database is implemented in is own Oracle database process and schema. This setup ensures complete isolation of the individual databases on the database server.
Must I expect regular downtime?
Regular downtime is not expected. If maintenance work that requires downtime is due on the IUCLID system, this will be clarified with the client in plenty of time.
Does the IUCLID Client have terminal server capability?
Yes, the IUCLID Client has terminal server capability.
What is an LEOX file and why do I need it?
An LEOX file is a type of license key which is required to activate the IUCLID application. The client receives the LEOX file on the official IUCLID homepage (http://www.iuclid.eu) when registering as an IUCLID client and downloading the IUCLID software. This process ensures that the customer has agreed with the general license agreements.
What are the requirements that must be met by an IUCLID Client?
The IUCLID Client should have a CPU of at least 2 GHz and a main memory of at least 512 MB. This hardware should have the Windows 2000 or Windows XP with Service Pack 2 operating system installed. In order to work with the IUCLID application, Java Runtime Version 1.5.0_10 or higher must be installed, and there must be at least 50 MB of free memory available. In addition, 100 MB of free memory is required in the user profile to save temporary data during a session for IUCLID use. Either a current version of Firefox or Internet Explorer can be used as the web browser.
How many users can work simultaneously on an IUCLID system?
The number of users allowed simultaneous access to an IUCLID system is not limited.
Does TechniData IT-Service GmbH support the installation of new PlugIns for my IUCLID system?
TechniData IT-Service GmbH installs new PlugIns. This service is covered in the monthly costs. For licensing and legal reasons, the PlugIns must be downloaded by the client and made available to TechniData IT-Service GmbH. This is the only way to ensure that the client has accepted the license agreements and that use of the PlugIn is possible from a legal standpoint.
Does TechniData IT-Service GmbH support the installation of 'Reference substances' and 'EC Inventory' for my IUCLID system?
TechniData IT-Service GmbH installs 'Reference substances' and 'EC Inventory'. This service is covered in the monthly costs.
Can I retrieve my data for internal IUCLID Hosting after my Hosting contract has expired?
Clients can export the data themselves. The IUCLID application has its own Export function for this.
If clients require a complete copy of their IUCLID system, they can order this separately from TechniData IT-Service GmbH. TechniData IT-Service will then extract a dump from the database and provide it for the client. The client can then copy the dump into their own IUCLID system. As this is an additional service, the client has to pay an extra charge.
